The latest smartbook devices with manufacturing news and the latest video and picture reviews will be located here.  We offer daily updates so you can keep updated with the smartbook world and understand just how far some manufacturers are willing to go in order to promote their new products.  Whether it be coupling the devices with or without cell phone carrier packages, the devices are being introduced with a variety of prices.


As the market develops smartbook accessories will be included into the news, for at this point is it far too early to see any of these introductions but many concepts and/or prototypes have been spotted.  Most of these accessories are rumoured to be multiplatform oriented, which include traditional laptops, netbooks, and of course the smartbook and the many other devices which lay in the midst.

Freescale releases another smartbook prototype: The device seeks to pair the new tablet technology with the latest smartbook tech. With its purported $200 price tag, this device is not so much of a heavy hitter as much as it is looking if the concept would be of interest to the consumer market.

Lenovo pairs its Skylight with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon: Set for an April 2010 delivery date and its $499 price is hoping of grabbing some consumer coin.  With a 1GHz processor, 10.1 inch display (sporting 1280x1720), 20GB total flash storage, and tones of other features, this press release aims to please.  Hopefully more light will be shed on the plans for marketing, and if they will be attached to any cell carrier service.

Fujitsu Life book spotted: Priced at a staggering $1415, this two-hour battery and multitouch screen is combined with some beautiful features but sadly has its own downsides.  Although it is mounted with a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor it still fails to captivate due to its lack of battery life.

War of the Smarts: Smartbooks pinned against Smart tablets: With many technology manufacturers bidding on what will develop into the next big thing for consumers it is nice to have an idea as to why each hold their opinion.  Both pro’s and con’s are discussed in order to give future consumers an idea as to what lay behind putting down their cold hard cash when they see these products emerge.

Rumor: Google designing Chrome OS for the smartbook: As talks progress, it is interesting to consider that Google may definitely be looking to capitalize on both the netbook and smartbook markets as they have yet to hit their peak.  Many of the companies Google is in talks with are all the same names which netbook and smartbook manufacturers bare.

Notion Ink to bring Android smartbook to market: Notion Ink which claims to bring revolutionary products out has promised the release of a 10.1 inch touchscreen LCD monitor with a 1024x600 resolution capability to be the blockbuster for smartbooks.  With a flashy look, and impressive specs it will be interesting to see how well it is received.

Pegatron smartbook Found Running Ubuntu: Scheduled for release in early 2010 the Pegatron prototype model features a 10 inch display with full Google Chrome OS compatibility.  No word on what processor was used for the model, but reports of a cool $200US price tag will definitely keep things affordable for the user.

Pegatron offers 5 reasons as to why you should buy their smartbook: GM Chou Biao Sheng announced that Pegatron will be releasing a 10” ARM-based smartbook that will that will be coupled with Ubuntu shall be hitting the market within the coming months.  In his announcement Sheng gives five reasons as to why you should consider buying the device and labels it as AQUIC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Lenovo Smartbook: No official word has been given from AT&T but rumors are circulating that the device will be offered at a subsidized price and marketed towards customers who want to sign up for a 3G service contract.  The new chipset is also set to support the LTE 4G technology which will soon make its debut as well.

FCC meets Mobinnova Beam Tegra smartbook: So far the carrier war has yet to start, but its heating up, especially since Mobinnova is looking to become another option for AT&T customers.  Since this is the second, it is definitely worth considering that these carrier packages should come cheap if a lot of competition starts to take place

Let the smartbook carrier wars begin: With AT&T selling, Lenovo producing, and Qualcomm powering, the US market has now been granted of jumping on to the smartbook bandwagon.  Although there has yet to be a price tag, there are rumors circling that it will be available at a subsidized price.

Haleron MIO smartbook now available: Aimed at the younger consumer market, this device has coupled VIA ARM9 platform with Windows CE 6, allowing the use of Microsoft Offices most coveted software.  Interesting, it also grants consumers access to a site specifically designed for the model which allows them to free downloads, music, video, programs, etc.

ASUS Snapdragon Smartbook due for Q1 release: After the mysterious disappearance of their ARM-based smartbook, the Snapdragon-powered smartbook has emerged as the preferred model to market to consumers.  This says a lot about Intel’s influence, but ultimately the price tag will be the soul reason these should sell like hotcakes since they are under the 200USD range.

Acer Aspire One gets burned before it hits the market: The good folks over at Engadget have reviewed the upcoming Acer smartbook but much of their review goes into actually highlighting its limitations.  The review showcases Android running at full steam but strangely does not have many applications which Google is known for as available on it [video].

French smartbook manufacturer Sagemcom releases the Spiga: Equipped with 3G technology and a touch screen with a resolution of 1024x756 with a 4.8 inch screen.  Although it does not feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon technology, it does hit the market at less than 500 euros [translated].

C-motech introduces their Mangrove smartbook: Fully equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon technology with a 7 inch 800x600 resolution touch screen along with all the 3G, WiFi and functionality of a netbook - this comes as a pleasant surprise everyone in the smartbook community.

The Mobinnova Beam formerly known as élan pulls a Prince: The rebranding is set to encourage more receptivity amongst consumers while still holding its NVIDIA Tegra chipset but no word is given amongst a smartbook app store.

Wondermedia releases their 7 inch Sungworld: Another ARM-based processor takes the stage alongside other hopefuls which will battle against the dreaded netbook come 2010.  Boasting 128MB of RAM, built in WiFi b/g and Bluetooth with both audio and USB ports with a 800x400 resolution screen to boot.

Quick look at the PC-Z1 Netwalker: Here is one of the first glances at this new device straight out of the box, complete with pictures of the unpacking process and a variety of comparison measures to help you get an idea of what is in the box

Qi Smartbook U1000 running with Windows Mobile: This five inch screen boasts a 800x480 resolution (WVGA) with a 624 MHZ processor that is sure to get everyone’s attention.  However, due to that it runs on Windows Mobile 6.5 it shows its limitations due to that the OS does not handle anything other than WXGA resolution.

The once considered first smartbook xpPhone set for release: Boasting a 160 gig hard drive, WIFI, GPS, and a host of other multimedia driven devices, this could become one of the most interesting first smartbook releases

Qualcomm gets more attention as leader in smartbook market: Even after a trademark dispute in Germany, Qualcomm has yet to change their direction and continues to lead the pack in terms of marketability as they hope to attract more customers towards their product.

ARM pushes to 2GHz and speculation flies for smartbook integration: Although there is no official word regarding the chip being included into any future models of smartbook devices, the chip is said to be planned for DTVs, printers, and high-density enterprise applications.

Elonex smartbook running with Windows CE: The ultraportable and netbook computer company has released its own smartbook, this comes as a natural progression from a company who seeks to make devices for under the average consumer.  Complete with pictures and a review, this is definitely something you want to get your eyes on

Foxconn plans for an inexpensive smartbook that is Arm-based: With this new emerging marketing setting itself up within the price range for the average consumer, Foxconn’s $100-200 smartbooks are set to catch on quickly with the public.  These devices are said to boast Arm technology which make them highly capable of some serious consideration.

Lenovo to debut smartbook this September: Combining the power of NVidia’s Tegra chipset and Google’s Chrome OS, the China based giant will be playing for keeps as this year will see it flex its muscles in the smartbook market.

Finally the debut of Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker: Poised to draw attention with its Ubuntu based OS, the new smartbook has both its pros and cons as it comes out of the gate – video inside.

Nokia N900 out of the gate: The smartbook race is starting to take shape as Nokia has released its Linux based ARM Cortex-A8 CPU with 1GB of application memory from within its 32GB storage.  Many other great features and specs accompany this fine looking device - video inside.

Review of Lanyu LY-EB01 smartbook: With ARM-processor intact, here is one of the first looks of the $98 smartbook set to hit the market.  Also, a video is included with commentary highlighting the pros and cons of the device.

Nokia set with smartbook strike in 2010: In addition to the newly released Nokia Booklet 3G netbook there is a statement regarding mid 2010 being the release date of ARM-based smartbooks which Nokia will be offering.

Inventec releases a smartbook Rainbow: Steering away from a smaller compact size and opting for the traditional notebook size, Inventec has released to the market the NVIDIA Tegra powered device.  No word on shipping but but when the specs look this good the public will love it

Smartbooks poised to steal netbook market: The giant telecoms are recognizing the potential of smartbooks to such a degree that they are encouraging its push for more ground within the netbook market and capture a portion of its profits.

Attack of smartbooks in fourth quarter: Rumors are surfacing regarding the release of a variety of smartbooks which will appear in the fourth quarter of 2009.  Regardless if these rumors are true, it is interesting to note that these reports are trying to cause a stir for the end of the year.

Smartbooks have been around since 1981: Companies have been onboard for years, however there has been struggle to bring a decent product to the market.  Now in 2009, there's four big reasons as to why the smartbook may finally get its wings.

Qualcomm's smartbook chip beats Nintendo Wii: Qualcomm's Snapdragon steps out of the gate and blows away the Wii console's ATI graphics chipset as the 3D processor out performs one of the gaming industries heavy hitters.

A bright future with smartbooks: Regardless of how you look at the current technology market, you will notice 3 paths that seek to give consumers the advanced mobile features they've always wanted.  One of those said paths is the ingenius new smartbook.

Tegra UI seen in Mobinnova élan: This video gives an idea how the élan combined with NVIDIA will base its design concepts for future models.  It also displays how it avoids the trappings of large icons on the smaller screen during this demonstration of its media abilities

Apple granted smartbook related patents: This week Apple was granted a patent based around the antenna for mobile devices.  This calls into question Apple has in store for the smartbook niche and if any suprises will be in store for the public soon.

Snapdragon Smartbook and Atom netbook order from Nokia: Reports are surfacing that Nokia has placed and order for both technologies from Taiwanese OEM's.  This comes without any speculation as Nokia and Intel are reported working together in order to gain a firm hold on the mobile market

Inventec steps up to bat in the smartbook market: The new competitor is seeking to grab a piece of the market for themselves as investors that that China will be ripe for potential for the smartbook.  Their 7" screen smartbook device features a Marvell-based processor combined with Android OS.

Microsoft pulls magic trick at tech show: Depending on how you view the Microsoft and Asus scuffle you will have to decide for yourself on what possibilites might have caused Microsoft to encourage Asus to pull back one of the best devices of the tech show.

The rush of mobile internet device technology: Developpers are showing no signs of slowing down the fast pace world of mobile technology as a flood of new devices are hitting the market.  However none of them are causing quite the stir that the smartbook

The Atom and Windows deal is cast out in favor of Linux and ARM: The new notebook comes with the promise of being able to last all day on a single charge, while having 20mm to 30mm thickness which will catch buyers attention.  This slim design plus its functionality opens up a whole new door for mobility.

Mobile technology changing the face of business: Qualcomm and Freescale are driving this new market and are not looking to give up any time as the smartbook gains more attention.  If your not jumping on this band wagon your definitely losing out on the savings that come with it.

Freescale smartphone powered by Google Android: The device highlights the large 4" display, full slide out QWERTY keyboard, all running on Google Android.  Freescale also showcases its netbook which runs on Android as well, and boasts a sleek 720p video playback as well.

Freescale combines smartbook and netbook designs: The combination of both devices give way for a host of prototypes that Freescale showcases here, with many features including slide-out full QWERTY keyboards, as well as touchscreen interfaces. Although the question remains of which prototype will cross the finishing line first.

Compal's Snapdragon powered smartbook running on Google Android: The world’s first functional smartbook to run on Google Android showcases a beautiful customizable startup interface as well as many other optimizations which are set to come. 

ECS T800 Netbook powered by Google Android: The ECS T800 netbook gets a video demo showcasing its impressive 8.1" display, and multiple ports while all running under Android.  The prototype showcases its very sleek design as well as promises for great specs.

NVIDIA Tegra powers Mobinnova élan smartbook: NVIDIA seeks to give competitors a run for their money as it powers Mobinnova's new smartbook.  With this device, it boasts 5-10 hours of continuous HD playback, and up to 24 hours of continuous audio playback on a single charge as well as many other impressive specs.

Qualcomm's 1.3Ghz Snapdragon powered chipset: The chipset is said to be on the market before 2009, which increases smartphone and smartbook devices will be 30% faster, while using 30% less power.  The chipset boasts enhanced 2D/3D graphic acceleration, 2.1 Bluetooth, and WXGA (1280x800px) technology amongst other things.

Snapdragon-powered Smartbooks: Snapdragon begins its reign on the smartbook market as its devices seek to be marketed alongside smartphones and laptops.  These new devices boast a battery life from 8-10 hours of use, along with integrated Bluetooth technology amongst other things.

Intel's Netbook revealed as FTEC SmartBook: Intel takes aim at young children, along with first-time buyers, and tech savvy housewives for their latest smartbook design. Malaysia is first to receive smartbooks for school children who will use the devices in classrooms
